Overview
Washington University Siteman Cancer Center: Symposium on Comorbidity & Cancer Care is planned and implemented by physicians. This activity is designed for physicians but may be of interest to internists. This 6.5-hour symposium will provide education through individual lectures, presentations by trainees, and educational sessions on best practices. The activity will highlight best practices across comorbidity assessment at cancer diagnosis, use of comorbidity data in cancer statistics, and patient outcome evaluations. The goal of this activity is to enhance knowledge and performance in incorporating comorbidity information into cancer patient treatment and outcomes assessment.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. 1. Assess and code comorbid conditions in newly diagnosed cancer patients to accurately reflect individual organ decompensation and calculate overall comorbidity scores using standardized methodologies.
  2. 2. Utilize the ACE27 instrument effectively to systematically evaluate comorbidity burden in cancer patients and apply scoring results to clinical decisionmaking processes.
  3. 3. Interpret the impact of comorbidities on cancer treatment selection, patient outcomes, and survival estimates to provide evidencebased, individualized care recommendations.
  4. 4. Integrate comorbidity data into cancer statistics interpretation and outcome evaluations to enhance the validity and clinical relevance of prognostic assessments.
  5. 5. Access and apply Siteman Cancer Center's comprehensive comorbidity database for clinical practice, research initiatives, and quality improvement efforts to advance cancer care delivery.
