Overview
The 16th Annual International Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Conference is planned and implemented interprofessionally by physicians, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists. This Hybrid In-Person and Webinar activity is designed for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists working in the areas of pediatrics, internal & family medicine, allergy, infectious diseases, microbiology, immunology. It may also be of interest to physician assistants, researchers, data analysts, hospital administrators, and all involved in caring for children. This two-day course will provide education through lectures, small group discussions, and questions & answers. The activity will highlight best practices across antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) and specific strategies that have improved antibiotic use in both inpatient and outpatient settings. These programs have led to improved outcomes and cost savings. The CDC and the Joint Commission have established the core elements that should be present for all inpatient and outpatient ASPs. There will be an option to attend a half-day (in-person only) Environmental Sustainability and Antimicrobial Stewardship (Non- CME) session prior to the start of the main conference. The goal of this activity is to improve knowledge, skills, performance and patient care related to antimicrobial stewardship.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Develop effective techniques to steward advanced diagnostic laboratory assays.
  2. Identify the best communication strategies for navigating conversations and communication surround antibiotic use for children with incurable infection at end of life.
  3. Identify patients likely to benefit from extended infusion beta lactams.
  4. Demonstrate effective strategies for communicating about antibiotic stewardship with infectious diseases clinicians.
  5. Incorporate diagnostic stewardship into the use of syndromic panels.
  6. Identify patients with hardware infections likely to benefit from the addition of adjunctive rifampin.
