Overview
WashU Medicine LASIK Surgery Center Spring CE Event is planned and implemented interprofessionally by ophthalmologists and optometrists. This activity is designed for optometrists and ophthalmologists who provide perioperative and postoperative care for patients undergoing corneal refractive surgery. This course may also be of interest to residents, fellows, technicians, and other eye care professionals involved in surgical comanagement. This 2 hour live course will provide education through lectures and dedicated question and answer sessions. The activity will highlight best practices in refractive surgery comanagement, patient assessment, recognition of complications, visual rehabilitation, and appropriate escalation of care. The goal of this activity is to enhance clinician knowledge, skills, care coordination, and performance in order to improve patient outcomes following corneal refractive surgery.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Assess patients before and after corneal refractive surgery and identify expected findings versus abnormal outcomes that require intervention or escalated care.
  2. Apply evidence based strategies to manage common visual concerns after refractive surgery, including residual refractive error, dry eye symptoms, and visual disturbances, using glasses, contact lenses, or other appropriate treatments.
  3. Assess current laser technologies in corneal refractive surgery to guide patient counseling and clinical recommendations.
