Overview

The 2026 Summer Psychiatry Conference is planned and implemented by physicians and nurses. This activity is designed for pediatricians, family practitioners, and nurses and may also be of interest to physician assistants to offer providers clinical approaches to problems common in pediatric and adolescent practice. This live course will provide education through lectures and case presentations. The activity will highlight best practices across pediatrics. The goal of this activity is to enhance knowledge and competency skills, strategy, and patient outcomes. This 5-hour live course will provide education through lectures, dedicated question-and-answer time, and case presentations.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify ideal ages, times, and situations to screen for substance use in their patients in a Pediatric Primary Care setting.
  2. Implement the evidencebased SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) screening tool and refine their skills if needed.
  3. Identify key risk factors and warning signs of suicidal ideation in adolescents to support early recognition and intervention.
  4. Identify and incorporate an individualized safety plan in collaboration with adolescents and their families to reduce immediate risk and promote protective factors.
  5. Identify common pitfalls and misconceptions in ADHD care (e.g., pharmacogenetic testing, under recognition in girls, and medication safety concerns) and apply strategies to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes.
  6. Implement a structured, evidence based approach to the evaluation of ADHD in children and adolescents, including use of multi informant data and assessment of comorbidities.
  7. Understand why and explain to parents why teens use AI companions.
  8. Understand what the risks are for children and AI.
