Overview

Updates in Medical and Surgical Thyroid and Parathyroid Management is planned and implemented interprofessionally by physicians, nurses, and physician associates.

This course is designed for these professions and may be of interest to speech pathologists and other clinicians specializing in endocrinology, surgery, and related services.

This activity is designed for endocrinology, surgery and primary care as well as otolaryngology, radiology, pathology, and nuclear medicine.

This CME course will provide education through lectures, case presentations, panel discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The activity will highlight best practices across thyroid and parathyroid disease diagnosis, risk stratification, imaging, molecular testing, medical therapy, and surgical management.

The goal of this activity is to enhance knowledge, clinical skills, performance, and patient care.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Utilize a multidisciplinary approach (integrating endocrinology, surgery, and radiology) to customize treatment plans for patients with advanced or aggressive thyroid malignancies.
  2. Identify and implement strategies to minimize perioperative complications in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, including the optimal use of intraoperative nerve monitoring and postoperative calcium management.
  3. Apply the latest consensus guidelines to differentiate which patients with lowrisk thyroid cancers are candidates for active surveillance versus surgical intervention.
  4. Formulate evidencebased diagnostic and management algorithms for patients presenting with complex primary, secondary, or tertiary hyperparathyroidism.
  5. Evaluate the clinical indications, benefits, and longterm outcomes of emerging interventional techniques, such as thermal ablation (RFAMWA), for benign and select malignant thyroid nodules.
