Overview
The 26th Annual St. Louis Critical Care Update is an engaging and collaborative course planned and implemented by physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. This event is specifically geared toward physicians, nurses, and pharmacists practicing in anesthesiology, critical care, emergency medicine, general surgery, and pulmonology, as well as those in family, general, hospital, and internal medicine. Moreover, it may also be of great interest to physician assistants, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals involved in providing care for critically ill patients. During this intensive half-day program, participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge through engaging lectures and dynamic panel discussions, featuring dedicated question and answer sessions. The course will focus on showcasing best practices in evidence-based, multidisciplinary critical care, covering a range of topics including the implementation of new strategies for fluid resuscitation in shock, optimal use of vasopressors in shock, the need for neuroprotection during shock resuscitation, advances in the management of cardiogenic shock, and the pharmacologic control of bleeding. By participating in this live activity, attendees can expect to gain increased knowledge, enhance their competence, improve their performance, and ultimately elevate the quality of care provided to adult critical care patients. This event serves as a platform for attendees to exchange insights, explore the latest advancements, and foster collaborative learning, all with the shared goal of optimizing patient outcomes in the critical care setting.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply state of the art fluid resuscitation management to critically patients with shock
  2. Advocate for the application of appropriate vasopressor use in the ICU setting
  3. Formulate a plan for the use of neuroprotection in critically ill shock patients.
  4. Calculate and assess the risk benefit of pharmacologic reversal of bleeding in shock.
  5. Formulate local protocols for the optimal treatment of cardiogenic shock.
  6. Apply evidencebased approaches to the treatment of patients with septic shock.
