Overview

The Division of Allergy & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine will hold the Updates in Clinical Allergy and Immunology on September 26, 2025 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center, Washington University Medical Center. This activity will allow for sharing of best practices and updates for managing patients with allergic and immunologic illnesses. The Updates in Clinical Allergy and Immunology activity is planned and implemented interprofessionally by physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

This live in-person activity is designed for allergists, immunologists, otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, internists, hospitalists, general & family practice physicians, pediatricians, pediatric allergists, pediatric immunologist, pediatric otolaryngologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists. It may be of interest to physician assistants and all healthcare professionals who care for patients with allergic and immunologic illnesses.

This activity will provide education through lectures and question & answer sessions. Topics will cover a wide variety of issues seen by healthcare professionals who care for patients with allergic and immunologic illnesses. The intended result of this course is to increase knowledge, competence, performance and enhanced patient care.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. ASTHMA Counsel patients with asthma on step up treatments for asthma with biologics, taking into consideration patient preferences, insurance formularies, and potential side effects.
  2. ASTHMA Explain the various mechanisms underlying allergic responses, and how treatments for allergic conditions affect these pathways and symptom manifestations of allergic conditions.
  3. ALLERGIC RHINITIS Counsel patients on treatments, benefits, risks, alternatives for management of allergic rhinitis, including various forms of immunotherapy.
  4. ALLERGIC SKIN Differentiate the mechanisms and clinical characteristics of various allergic dermatological skin conditions, particularly hereditary angioedema, atopic dermatitis, and contact dermatitis.
  5. ALLERGIC SKIN Diagnose and develop treatment plans for patients with hereditary angioedema, atopic dermatitis, and contact dermatitis.
  6. FOOD ALLERGY Identify pediatric patients who would benefit from treatment with oral immunotherapy for the treatment of food allergy. Provide counseling for caregivers regarding benefits, risks of harm, and alternatives to treatment for food allergy.
