Overview

The management of pulmonary nodules and early-stage lung cancer is becoming increasingly prominent in todays medical practice. The rising incidence of screen-detected and incidental findings necessitates that clinicians and patients alike maintain a thorough and current understanding of lung nodule care. This encompasses knowing whom to screen, timing for biopsies, the technologies available for diagnosing pulmonary nodules, and the optimal treatment strategies, even for patients who may not be suitable candidates for surgery.

The Pulmonary Nodules and Early-Stage Lung Cancer Symposium is meticulously planned by physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists. It aims to educate the entire healthcare team involved in managing patients with pulmonary nodules and early-stage lung cancer. This includes physicians of all experience levels, pulmonary physicians, interventional pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, physician associates, and other healthcare professionals.

This live, 7-hour course offers education through lectures, interactive sessions, and hands-on labs, providing a comprehensive overview of the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of pulmonary nodules using contemporary, evidence-based approaches. It will update attendees on state-of-the-art topics within the field, including liquid biomarkers, ultrathin bronchoscopy, robotic bronchoscopy, navigational methods, bronchoscopic ablation, as well as surgical and non-surgical options for early-stage lung cancer management. Participants will gain enhanced knowledge, skills, and strategies to improve performance and patient care. The course discusses current practice guidelines and the latest innovations in the field, such as bronchoscopic ablation, novel navigational techniques, and robotic bronchoscopy.

Physician hands-on sessions will cover: Electromagnetic Navigation Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound and Ultrathin Bronchoscopy Robotic Bronchoscopy Ultrasound-guided Transthoracic Needle Biopsy Respiratory therapists, nurses, and nurse practitioners will engage in hands-on sessions focusing on: Bronchoscopy room setup and simulated procedures, including preparation, procedural aspects, and recovery.

The intended outcome of this activity is to foster a collaborative, team-based approach that enhances knowledge, competence, and performance in the evaluation and management of patients with pulmonary nodules and early-stage lung cancer.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe newer techniques that can be used to diagnose pulmonary nodules.
  2. Describe and evaluate available treatment options for patients with early stage lung cancer.
  3. Incorporate new techniques to treat and manage pulmonary nodules and patients with early stage lung cancer.
