Overview

The Showcasing Excellence in Cardiac Surgery symposium is planned and implemented interprofessionally by physicians and nurse practitioners. This activity is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, residents, fellows, nurses, perfusionists and anesthesia providers as well as physician associates specializing in cardiac surgery. This day and a half, in - person course will provide education through lectures, case presentations, panel discussions, question & answer sessions, simulation, and small group discussions.

Day 1 will be focused on all aspects of cardiac surgery.

Day 2 will be focused on coronary revasculalization, program building and education of residents, fellows for multiple disciplines including cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and surgical critical care. The activity will highlight best practices across cardiac surgery procedures. The goal of this activity is to enhance knowledge, skillsstrategy, performance, and patient care.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply current guidelines and clinical evidence to determine optimal timing and appropriate patient selection for SAVR, TAVR, and the Ross Procedure.
  2. Demonstrate an evidencebased approach to diagnosing and managing the full spectrum of aortic pathology, including disease of the aortic valve, ascending aorta, aortic arch, and descending aorta.
  3. Implement effective strategies for the longitudinal followup and surveillance of patients with aortic disease to monitor progression and ensure timely intervention.
